Detector Use: Energy Calibration

The relationship between channel number in a multi-channel analyzer (MCA) and gamma-ray energy is essentially linear. We can, therefore, generate an energy calibration for the spectrum using a calibration source with at least two good gamma lines of known energy.

If a calibration standard is not available, it may be possible to calibrate the spectrum based on some knowledge of common peaks in a spectrum.
